I assume that you are attempting to set up a strawman argument with your true statement:
"The steel did not have to melt."
So, Mr. Physics, at what temperature does steel lose its integrity? Were such temperatures (below that melting point of steel) evident in the WTC-1, WTC-2, and WTC-7 fires? More to the point, did enough of the steel itself experience such substained temperatures over sufficient time to weaken... uniformly?
If you were to do some homework and some critical thinking, you'd learn:
From what I've researched, I do not believe the fires in any of the three buildings were hot enough, concentrated enough, or prolonged enough to generate temperatures that would weaken the steel. And even if this were the case, we know that the fires were not uniform, so the failure of the structure would also be non-uniform. But video evidence shows us they weren't.
Let us, however, run with your premise about lower temperatures and weakened-and-not-melted steel. How do you explain the molten steel that burned in the subbasement levels for literally weeks after the structures fell and the video evidence of clean-up cranes picking out red (and white) hot chunks of metal? Where did the energy come from to accomplish this?
I have looked into some of your other 9/11 debunking references. (Looks like the US government is stepping up its propaganda efforts. It has to keep kicking sand in our eyes or we'll see the man behind the curtain.)
The discussion of the free-fall time was what interested me. Remember, free-fall time is calculated for a vacuum without wind-resistance. One debunker may indeed be correct that the actual collapse completes in 14 or 15 seconds, not 10.8 or 11.3 seconds as timed by observers of the collapse videos. However, even that time is consistent with wind-resistence and inconsistent with the resistence one would expect from the other floors in the structure.
Worse, the author mentions pulverization of materials and mentions the energy in Joules that was calculated for the structure. Yet, in throwing out these facts and figures, the author fails to fully equate the laws of conservation of energy. Namely, if we observe pulverization of materials -- a huge energy sink --, then we can't have a collapse occuring in the short time that we can measure (suggesting free-fall speeds).
I also noticed an author try to set up another strawman argument by saying words to the effect (paraphrased),
"we know [WTC-1, WTC-2, and WTC-7] weren't controlled demolition, because those are always performed by taking out the underlying support structure and letting gravity do the work. The towers initiated their collapse high up in the structure where the planes entered, not at the base."
I believe the same author tried to create weak denials years later about what "pull" means to the demolition's industry. This would have had a bigger impact if it were made in 2001-2002 by many people from the demolition industry.
By a similar token, the efforts of those "debunking 9/11 truth" (www.jod911.com) would have a bigger impact if they were more professional and even supported by government institutions. As we've learned from you, Hawley, just saying something does not make it true. I mean, they say "Peer-Reviewed Papers", but who are those peers? What field are they in? Who provided feedback and when?
My goodness, they've only had four issues in Volume 1. If you look into the details, the fourth issue is a piece by Ryan Mackey that supposedly examines Dr. David Ray Griffin’s criticism of the NIST World Trade Center investigation. It was written in August 2007 and is considered a DRAFT by the author himself. Surely enough time has elapsed from when he penned his DRAFT and now for that "peer-reviewed" paper to be finalized. (The third issue, they were tool lazy to even create a PDF file!) Their debunking efforts ain't comprehensive or even focused on what matters. Looks to me like they ran out of steam.

Now perform a Google search on a portion of just the first sentence, such as the link above.
What one learns is that this piece that Hawley posted -- supposedly as his original thoughts -- was really a talking point piece that was e-mailed to him and others in the right-wing propaganda machine and that they dutifully re-posted all over the internet to message boards such as this. The eight direct hits from Google only show those postings that its spiders have found so far, not necessarily all that exist... And certainly not all viral spreading via e-mail of the very same "crap."
It might not be so bad if Asshat Idolitarian Craig would have stated where he got it, but his honesty doesn't stretch that far.

Since new nuclear power now costs more than double what the MIT report assumed -- three times what the Economist called "too costly to matter" -- let me focus solely on the unresolved problem of cost. While safety, proliferation and waste issues get most of the publicity, nuclear plants have become so expensive that cost overwhelms the other problems.

First Obama doesn't advocate meeting with the President of Iran. Much less bellicose religious leaders control Iran's foreign relations despite the impressions some Americans have of the loose cannon se3rving as the Iranian President. The President of Iran doesn't have the kind of authority our system confers the title. At one time John McCain knew this but it's hard to say what he's forgotten or what hes pandering upon now. The point here is that despite McCain's massacre of the facts the President of Iran would be undermined if we met with the real leaders of foreign affairs and kept him out of the loop he isn't really part of in determining Iran's foreign relations. On the other hand meeting with both while delivering his position a big symbolic defeat might do most to undermine this caustic leader who, like our own bombastic Bush, has many domestic opponents.
When John McCain rejects meeting with Iranian leaders he actually rejects the Bush administrations own policies. The very top of Bush's government have attempted no strings talks with Iran over their role in the Iraq war. Condoleezza Rice herself has tried to start such talks with Iranian leader without preconditions in this regard

Attributing to me words that aren't mine, are we? Unlike you, I read through Sgt. Asshat's postings and the linked articles. Turns out most of his words were direct quotations from the sources he linked. So, I found it most amusing to see you call me (him) a liar based on the quoted words of other authors.
And what exactly is Sgt. Asshat lying about? I don't get it.
Has your physical ailment been flaring up lately, causing you to load up the bowl of your water pipe a few extra times, which then affects your temperment? It's reflected in your postings.
Your postings lack. They lack intelligence; they lack substance; they lack purpose; they lack wit; they lack charm; they lack facts; they lack proof-reading.
Oh, and they lack conviction on your part. I quote you:

The operative word is "thought". You don't think, Mr. Hawley, at least not critically. You've been proven to have a very closed mind, one that is welded shut and can't be pried open as much as a crack to let in a thin ray of sunshine. (What page are you on in the books I sent you? As such, there's no way that the "garbage they spew" can be proven true in your mind, because your uncritical thinking, your acceptance as gospel the lying words of the present leaders of our fair nation, your incurious nature, and your inability to question authority (something a true Vietnam Era Veteran would have experience with) have made a mockery of both your American patriotism and your Christian faith. These very same traits in your character both limit your reality and turn you into a liar in the very same sentence when you state "I could not live here any more."
Of course you could continue to live here if "the garbage were true" for two reasons. Reason number one is that you believe you are presently benefiting by supporting those in power and echoing their positions without thinking. You believe you're cheering for the winning team. Most of the wins you could mention today are more bravado than actual points on the board. Just like juicing and other illegal tactics can strip an athlete of his medals and the team of its win, so will be the findings of investigations after Bush leaves office, stripping them of even bragging rights to all of their self-proclaimed victories both foreign and domestic.
Reason number two why you could continue to live here -- and why I am here -- is that America the concept that we've pledged allegience to, America as defined by the Constitution, and America in our heart of hearts and that the world admires, achieves its merits and standing, not through lip-service, but through true American patriotism that involves exercising those very same Constitutional rights in becoming better informed, in speaking out against wrong, in protesting, in voting, and in community activism & participation to set right what is wrong and to re-establish what America should be. This was a duty thrust upon us by our founding fathers, and one that every generation must attend to, else the United States won't be America any longer.
Patriotism isn't only about taking up arms and marching in uniform to foreign lands to fight, which is made easier by courage-inducing drums of war pounding in your ears and the more immediate thoughts of not letting down your brothers (and sisters) in arms who defend the trenches with you. But when you are all alone and must take up the battle yourself to become an informed citizen, the cause of patriotism to do what is just and right for the nation based on that knowledge can be more daunting.
You need to revisit the "garbage they spew". You need to take a second look at who "they" are. At their core, they are probably more patriotic than you are, because they risked so much more to speak out. What was their standing, their position, and their credibility before the Republican attack machine and echo chamber went after them for deviating from the "party line" and for exposing wrong-doing?
Then you'll probably need to re-evaluate their true words that can only be labeled as "garbage" by narrow-minded minions who don't consider substance and are too eager to label, libel, and slander.

[FTR, I did leave America... several times for extended periods. I even have the grand distinction of once almost being deported from, of all places, Germany. In trying to be legal with residency and work permits, I ran into hassles repeated year after year with long delays in decision making and massive uncertainty whether or not permits would be granted to enable me to keep a job that few Germans were qualified for, all because foreigner laws were tightened after the wall came down. Unlike you in the immigration debate, I know what it is like to be on the other side of an INS office, and I have much sympathy for "die Ausländer."]
BTW, I did review the lame debunking 9/11 truth sites you posted. They aren't maintained, they aren't very comprehensive, and their documents are as much peer-reviewed as you & I are Vietnam Veterans. There was one analysis of the falling towers that did use math that was quite interesting, but I suspect that it was more "bury them in bullshit" than anything else. Were I to give it validity -- which I would be very happy to do --, it only bolsters one small aspect of the government's 9/11 fairy tale.

Anyone who has had an adversarial relationship with John McCain will tell you that there are few with less self-control than the senator from Arizona. What Patriotism Is, and Is Not

At the beginning of the week, a friend sent me a scurrilous, anonymous e-mail attacking Barack Obama... Headlined "Something to Think About," it lists 13 acts of assassination, kidnapping, war and terrorism, all of which, it notes, were committed "by Muslim male extremists between the ages of 17 and 40."
After several other claims, including a bogus citation from the Book of Revelation, the e-mail concludes, semi-literately, "For the award winning Act of Stupidity Now ... the People of America want to elect, to the most Powerful position on the face of the Planet - The Presidency of the United States of America to A Muslim Male Between the ages of 17 and 40? Have the American People completely lost their Minds, or just their power of reason? I'm sorry but I refuse to take a chance on the 'unknown' candidate Obama."
To point out the obvious errors, that Barack Obama's a Christian, not Muslim, and that he's 46, not "between the ages of 17 and 40," feels a bit lame, like damning with faint fact-checking. Let's call this appalling missive what it is - bigoted, hysterical and more than a little nuts.

So it goes across the nation. Chances are, many of the perpetrators of this nonsense think they're being patriots, saving us from Obama and ourselves. And goodness knows, there's a long history of this kind of guttersnipery in American politics. As Obama pointed out in his Monday speech on the nature of patriotism, "Thomas Jefferson was accused by the Federalists of selling out to the French. The anti-Federalists were just as convinced that John Adams was in cahoots with the British and intent on restoring monarchal rule ... the use of patriotism as a political sword or a political shield is as old as the Republic."

The senator talks about American history and his own patriotism, about the need for service and sacrifice. "For those who have fought under the flag of this nation," he said, "for the young veterans I meet when I visit Walter Reed; for those like John McCain who have endured physical torment in service to our country - no further proof of such sacrifice is necessary. And let me also add that no one should ever devalue that service, especially for the sake of a political campaign, and that goes for supporters on both sides."
And this: "I believe those who attack America's flaws without acknowledging the singular greatness of our ideals, and their proven capacity to inspire a better world, do not truly understand America.... But when our laws, our leaders or our government are out of alignment with our ideals, then {emphasis added} THE DISSENT OF ORDINARY AMERICANS MAY PROVE TO BE ONE OF THE TRUEST EXPRESSIONS OF PATRIOTISM."
Which brings me to what I think was an unusual and especially fine expression of American patriotism. It's the June 19 closing argument of Air Force Reserve Maj. David J.R. Frakt, arguing for the dismissal of charges against Mohammed Jawad, a young detainee at Guantanamo, charged with throwing a hand grenade that wounded two GI's and their interpreter in Afghanistan. Frakt argued that Jawad should be released because sleep deprivation - two weeks' worth - was used to torture him. You can read it on the web site of the ACLU.
Frakt stood before the military commission upholding the inviolability of the American principle of due process, even for an alleged enemy of the United States. "Under the Constitution all men are created equal, and all are entitled to be treated with dignity," he said. "No one is 'undeserving' of humane treatment. It is an unmistakable lesson of history that when one group of people starts to see another group of people as 'other' or as 'different,' as 'undeserving,' as 'inferior,' ill treatment inevitably follows ...
"After six and a half years, we now know the truth about the detainees at Guantanamo: some of them are terrorists, some of them are foot soldiers, and some of them were just innocent people, caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. But the detainees at Guantanamo have one thing in common - with each other, and with us - they are all human beings, and they are all worthy of humane treatment."
Thus, in the face of adverse public opinion and White House opposition, Frakt bravely defended a constitutional principle as all-encompassing, including under its protections even those who might seek to destroy us and the very constitutional principles for which we stand. In fact, he said, "It is a testament to the continuing greatness of this nation, that I, a lowly Air Force Reserve major, can stand here before you today, with the world watching, without fear of retribution, retaliation or reprisal, and speak truth to power. I can call a spade a spade, and I can call torture, torture."
To me, that makes Maj. David Frakt a patriot and this a great country. Happy Fourth of July.
If this was not Registered Independent posting as "the Dunce", then my apologies. But with the assumption that it is, allow me to start by thanking you for providing me another opening to talk about conspiracies, and more especially my favorite conspiracy, 9/11.

Exhibit B. Whoever "George W. Bush" was, their alias provided a link back to a website, where lo and behold, the exact same short quotation with attributes appears. Ergo, you are a bold-faced liar in claiming that whoever posted here was the supposed bad editor who "obviously cut off a Bush quotation mid-sentence."
And you call yourself a lawyer? Here's a tip for you. When you see that an alias is hyperlinked, do a right-click on the link and select "Open in New Tab (or Window)". Then you won't loose your location in this thread and don't have to use the Back button.
Had you been technically skilled enough to perform this computer operation and had your legal training taught to you perform discovery investigations before opening your mouth and sticking your fungi infected foot inside, an out-of-state lawyer such as yourself would have learned or come much closer to knowing who was the supposed editor of the George W. Bush quotation and how legitimate it is.
And if that doesn't satisfy you, you could probably google it and find out just how legitimate it is.
Exhibit C. It looks like your idiotarian did just such googling about four hours before you posted and found the rest of the quote in an Associated Press article. And hey, no quotation was cut off mid-sentence.

Exhibit F. In previous correspondence with you in this forum, you had called me a bold-faced liar for claiming that six of the 9/11 hijackers were alive and well. You claimed that you had seen on TV security videos from the airports used on 9/11 showing all 19 hijackers going through security and/or boarding their planes.
I replied that I would apologize profusely if I was wrong, but such information about six alive named hijackers was true as far as I knew. I then gave you the assignment of locating those security videos that you say at one time or another were broadcast, put into the public domain, and thus were readily available on the Internet for you to find and give me links to.
